You Are More Than a Client, And I Am More Than a Price Tag

Photography Pricing is often a heated debate among photographers, as well as people searching for a photographer. So, I decided to throw my two cents into the world. I am sure it won’t please all, but it might explain me a little more, and why I charge what I charge.

More so I hope I become more than a photographer to you. Because my clients are so much more than clients to me.

I often get emails asking why my session fee is so high, when others in the area charge so much (almost $200) less than me.

Well, one is I don’t do “in-person sales” after your shoot. That means, after we have our photo session, I edit your photos then deliver them to you. Watermark free. High resolution. Ready for you to print, download, post and share! It is sometimes called a “shoot and burn” or “shoot and share”. Some photographers love it. Some hate it. I happen to love it! A second, major factor is I am a rule follower. More on that a little later!

Why I love the “shoot and Share” approach!

There are a lot of reasons why I prefer the shoot and share method. The main reason is it tends to have a high volume, lower average price approach to sessions. For me this means I get to see the same clients multiple times a year! And this I absolutely LOVE! I don’t want a photo session with me to be a once in a lifetime luxury. I want you to be able to have a session at least once a year. The more we shoot together, the more we know each other, and in my opinion, the better our images become!

The other large factor in my pricing is time. For the hour or so we are together I generally spend two or more after editing your images and creating your gallery! Something I genuinely love to do!

I see our time together, and my time with your images after as a time of collaboration and creating.

I don’t see photography as a simple snap and grab. I see it as an opportunity to capture memories and create art with each one of my clients!

I’m a super boring rule follower!

More that goes into my pricing, I am a super boring rule follower! I have business insurance; liability insurance and I make sure I have shoot permits for any location you want to go to!

What is a shoot permit? Well, in California, Nevada, Washington and Oregon certain parks and other public locations require me, as a commercial photographer to get a permit to shoot photos. I do the research and get the permits. I do not wing it or go with the “it’s easier to ask for forgiveness” theory when taking clients out on location. Some permits are 5 bucks some are $100. Either way I absorb these costs and make sure everything is taken care of before your shoot.

Other things that apply to all my clients:

Once you pick me as your photographer, I am here for you. I correspond with all of my clients via text/call/messenger/zoom and coffee dates. I answer questions, help with outfits, we collaborate on location ideas or theme. I am here for you to help you create images you will love forever! I encourage you to bring your ideas, your creativity, your spirit to every conversation we have.

I give you my full self at your session! You will be more than just a client to me, you are my partner in creative crime! And I hope this partnership lasts a lifetime.
